TPH & Four Count Concepts – Yamaha Custom Stage Birch Drum Kit

TPH and Four Count Concepts (who partner in the audio side of our recording facility) have acquired a Yamaha Custom Stage birch drum kit. This is a great recording kit. 22 inch kick drum, 10, 12, and 14 inch toms, Pearl hardware and Sabian cymbals. Plus, the piece de resistence, a Noble & Cooley 7×14 inch Maple Snare Drum. This is an industry standard; incredibly versatile and one of my favorite snares I have ever recorded. I got the N&C from a former drummer for Glen Campbell who I have worked with extensively in the past. I have used this exact snare drum on dozens of recordings via my friend and am very grateful that he gave me first crack at it. How could I refuse?

Most drummers when recording in a studio such as TPH like to use their own kit or at least their own cymbals and kick drum pedal, and maybe bring a few different snares to try if they have them. But it’s nice to know that TPH has your drum tracks dialed with this kit as an option. Getting drum sounds is often the most time consuming and tedious part of recording. Between tuning the drums for the right tone, choosing the right mics and positioning to best compliment the playing style, and getting a solid performance all the way through the song (it’s not optimal to overdub and punch in drums), experimenting with different snare drums and different song approaches we can spend all day just getting the drums to sound right.

Now that TPH has a house drum kit that is always ready to go we can save you a lot of time and money. The kit sounds great in our live room. We can customize room size according to the sound you want so there are a myriad of options. Remember drums are the foundation on which you build the rest of your sound. Taking the time to get that right makes the sound choices for other instruments so much easier.
