We are a small community with a small population base. The following services and programs are offered as funds are available. There is no national humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA) to help with local needs. Tahoe pets depend on Tahoe people, full and part time residents and visitors. If you can help support these critical programs, please call 530.542.2857 or donate via the Donation link. Pet Food may be dropped off at the Lake Tahoe Humane Society office located at 870 Emerald Bay Road, Suite #104, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.

Please call for information on our current needs. Our organization is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Tax deductible financial donations in any amount are much appreciated and can be mailed to: Lake Tahoe Humane Society & S.P.C.A, P.O. Box PET, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96158

Educational Programs

We provide age-appropriate, activity-based lessons, designed to fit into a teacher’s existing curriculum and aligned to common core standards. Presentations vary from 30-60 minutes, are geared toward individual classrooms and can occur on a one-time, weekly or monthly basis. Animal-related topics and environmental education are the focus for introducing humane and education concepts including kindness, compassion, character, respect, responsibility and integrity. All programs are offered at no charge. If you are interested in having a speaker come to your class room please contact us 530.542.2857.

Educational Programs: Veterinary Science Initiative

VSI: Veterinary Science Initiative is a program developed by the education team at the Charleston Animal Society, South Carolina, as a model for cooperative education between shelters, veterinarians, and other private organizations to collaborate with local school districts, while also conducting research about how this curriculum benefits student knowledge, organizational awareness and community engagement. Consisting of  seven lessons (6 in class room and one field trip) it is an amazing program to stimulate interest in science, and to introduce veterinary sciences to high school students. If you would like your class to participate in this program please contact Liz Maul at 530.542.2857.

Educational Programs: breaking the Cycle of Violence

Breaking the Cycle of Violence; Presentations for middle school classes introduce the history of the humane movement and current research on the linking of all violence, from homicide, to child and domestic violence to animal abuse. Resources are provided for family support and student help. If you are interested in having a speaker come to your class room please contact us 530.542.2857.

Art for Animals

Working in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District and Tahoe Transportation we are creating Art for Animals. Student Art is themed to raise awareness against animal cruelty, the importance of Spay-Neuter and Vaccinations for your pets. Certain pieces of art are chosen to be displayed on the Blue Go buses (donation of ad space courtesy of Tahoe Transportation). This exposure will assist in spreading the word throughout the South Lake Tahoe community. Art supplies will be provided to each participating class along with a lesson including animal educational expressing the importance of kindness, compassion and respect (lesson can be given during the art class time).

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society & S.P.C.A. is A nonprofit 501 (3)c organization that depends completely on private donations.  Please donate to help keep our programs like “Art for Animals” going. Click HERE to Donate now!
