ABOUT CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH

Christian Science is a world-wide, Bible-based, Christian denomination. Our South Lake Tahoe church is a Branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy. Our pastor is the Bible and our textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy’s principal work, which was first published in 1865. Our mission is to heal.

We are located at 2081 Lake Tahoe Blvd. on land donated by Lora Moore Knight. Mrs. Knight, a dedicated Christian Scientist and philanthropist, funded and oversaw the construction of our original building. Her summer home on Emerald Bay, Vikingsholm, is now a California State Park site. We have been in continuous service to our community since 1935 making us the oldest church in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Reading Room, located next to the church, is a public resource where visitors can study The Bible, the writings of Mrs. Eddy and access other related reference material.

Our Sunday Services are led by first and second Readers who deliver the Lesson-Sermon (reading from The Bible and Science and Health) that Christian Scientists around the world have studied during the week. We also have a Sunday School for young people up to the age of 20. On Wednesday we hold a testimonial meeting where, after selected readings, the congregation is invited to share healings and experiences from their application of Christian Science.
