ABOUT BLUE ANGEL CAFE:

Serving the South Lake Tahoe Community for 15 years

The Blue Angel Cafe has been offering fresh, innovative food from around  the world for 15 years. Owners Jeff and Rosie Cowen say they can’t believe how fast a decade and-a-half can go by. Little has changed at the location on historic Ski Run Boulevard from the day the Cowens and their original partner Chef Eunie Lyle opened the doors of a brand new mountain-inspired building in 2003. The place has gotten a little cozier. The menu has gotten a little healthier. But the warmth, friendliness, and charm are clearly still here.

After several ski seasons in Europe, Jeff and Rosie came back to Tahoe with renewed passion for après ski, international food, and maintaining an old-school caliber of guest service–a combination that is hard to find in South Tahoe. Here you can take a trip around the world with curries from the streets of Bangkok, fish tacos from Baja, hand made pizzas from Italy, or bourguignon stew from the French countryside. The seasonally-changing menu is complimented by a curated selection of craft beer, locally roasted Alpen Sierra coffee and a boutique wine list with vino from near and very far.

What is the Blue Angel Cafe? First, there’s the name. We talk about that here. Then, there’s what it’s like–the experience. In Summer, the cafe’s sunny garden seating and wide-open doors scream Sauvignon Blanc and fresh salads. In Winter, the glowing fireplace and cabin interior lure you toward a rich Merlot and beef stew. Friendly? When people ask for a Happy Hour, the Blue Angel gives three. Specials run from 3 to 6 pm Monday thru Friday. It’s also fun. There’s a farmer’s street market outside the front door every Friday afternoon June-August. It’s definitely family-friendly. There’s a toy box, games under the coffee table, a couch to wrestle on, and no reservations needed. It’s casual, but not really. Many business meetings happen on the oversize tables where laptops, files, and lunch can comfortably mingle. Girls’ lunch meetups. First dates. Study sessions. It’s the kind of place that takes food, drink and service seriously while letting people decide what the Cafe is good for.

More and more, the Blue Angel crew and their incredible food have been sought out for private events–especially weddings and multi-day corporate retreats. The Blue Angel Cafe and Catering Company was voted Tahoe’s Best Caterer in 2011 and 2012. Catered events can be hosted in the private banquet Loft upstairs from the Cafe or at just about any unique venue you find while exploring Lake Tahoe. More catering info is here.
